[ he answers quickly because he can't pinpoint another word. another way of explaining what his apology is about. maybe the immeasurable amounts of awkward only existed on his side of the mattress. ]
It wasn't necessarily the talk itself that I was apologizing for. It was the whole situation.
[ nothing she needs to worry her pretty little head about since it's clearing out like a fog now. ]
Yes. Baby's first event. [ he's trying to be funny, but it's more self-deprecating than anything. ] Why events? They're certainly eventful. Just.. not a celebration like the word brings to mind.
[ . . . yes, well, that would do that to a person. ]
About as weird as being related to someone I've never met. Your weirdness is safe with me.
[ he misses his real family. they've been home since the aliens stripped them of their real one and stole his mother away. he misses his father's strength, Hal's endless understanding, Matt at his side as a constant reminder of the future and hope, Lexi as the bright star, and Anne's compassion. there's a hole in him, longing for Weaver's grumbles, Maggie's steady resillience, even Pope's smart mouth. ]
I have a clean bed, running water, and constant access to food. That's more than I've had in years. I'm still trying to get used to it all.
[ other than the fact she has some of that protective-ness left over, no, her side of the bed really wasn't all that awkward. unless of course curse ben decides to get a little frisky, in which case, well. that's an entirely different story. ]
the situation was fine really, ben. you were okay, stop worrying
and that's cute. my first event included a bunch of hellhounds trying to rip everyone apart so like I said, could have been a lot worse. :)
[ she still remembers that event, though probably for reasons other than the actual nightmare that was happening around her. it was so long ago. ]
I don't know that was just sort of the name that everyone picked up? they happen every couple of weeks, usually only for a few days it's almost like clockwork, or a schedule thus...an event. that we all have to attend. whether we want to or not.
[ she's trying really hard not to treat this all like a 'it's whatever, they happen, you haven't had to aputate your significant other to keep him from turning into a zombie so just wait' sort of deal, but that's the weight that sits on her chest.
you get used to it, she wants to say, but the last event wasn't even that bad. it makes her wonder what could be coming up soon.
though what he says after that has her curious. probably more curious than she should be. ]
you never did tell me what your home was like not that you have to some people like to keep that secret and that's totally okay I don't know not being used to a clean bed or running water seems like a totally different set of problems
